Jasmine Ng is a filmmaker who tells stories across platforms - from film to television, to theatre and site-specific installations ( Moveable Feast, Eating Air, SHIRKERS, Lonely Planet Six Degrees, FUTURE FEED, Our Town, In The Silence of Your Heart).

She first contributed to the local independent cinema scene with her involvement in several milestone works, including her work as editor of Eric Khoo’s 12 Storeys (Cannes-Un Certain Regard) and on Moveable Feast, (co-directed/produced, Clermont-Ferrand, Museum of Modern Art-New York), and with Eating Air, also co-directed with Kelvin Tong, that broke new ground for Singapore and made its mark on the international film festival circuit (Rotterdam IFF VPRO Tigers Competition, FIPRESCI Special Critics Mention, SFC Young Cinema Award). In 2018, an award-winning film that she was featured in and associate produced for, SHIRKERS, won a prize at Sundance Film Festival and was acquired as a Netflix Original to be launched globally, and continues to make great strides across the international film festival arena.

With many broadcast-commissioned hours under her belt, she has also directed and executive produced narrative and factual programmes for international broadcasters such as Discovery Channel, National Geographic and Singtel-HOOQ. She has served on many film juries and pitch panels in Singapore and regionally. And as series producer and executive producer, she has guided many young filmmakers from Singapore, China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia, shaping projects from pitch stage to market and to telecast.

 

With her experience of both the international film festival & market circuits as well as the international broadcast television arena, she serves as a consultant on production development and marketing strategies.

She has conceptualised cross-disciplinary works, collaborating with different communities with the support of the Lien Foundation and the Khoo Teck Puat Foundation. She has also commissioned and guided young filmmakers and animators on projects such as the immersive arts experience, PRISM (for the Institute of Policy Studies) and the on-going BOTH SIDES, NOW project – a multi-edition, multi-media installation project exploring issues on death and dying, that has been installed in public spaces such as hospitals and heartland neighbourhoods. Other creative-collabs include those with dance and theatre groups. 

 

An advocate for the film and arts community and for the creative industry, she is also one of the co-founders and current president of the Singapore Association of Motion Picture Professionals.
